I. Franklin Miller graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1936 with a graduate degree in dentistry and an M.A. in education. He opened his own dental laboratory and began to work in the field of prosthetic dentistry. Dr. Miller pioneered the use of resin in dentistry and received many awards for his work in restorative dentistry.
He began teaching at the First District Dental Society, and in 1951 he organized the I. Franklin Miller Study Group, which held meetings three or four times a year. Dr. Miller served as the Clinical Professor of Postgraduate Denture Prosthesis at the New York University College of Dentistry for many years, teaching a number of different courses. He also lectured widely and is estimated to have given more than 1500 lectures. At the NYU College of Dentistry he also helped raise $100,000 to name the I.
