Administrative Information

Provenance

The records of University Architect Joseph J. Roberto were transferred from the University Architect's office to the University Archives in 1989. This collection encompasses the records both the University Architect's Office and the Office of the Director of Planning and Supervising Architect, to which it reported during the first half of the 1960s. Martin Beck, who held the latter position, passed his correspondence on to Roberto on a daily basis and transferred files to Roberto upon vacating the position. The collection originally comprised over 60 linear feet of material. Separation of folded blueprints and the disposal of duplicates, transmittal sheets, photographs, and printed matter reduced the collection to 32 linear feet. Blueprints have been removed to flat files and photographs to the Archives' photograph collection. The bulk of this material falls between the years 1960 to 1987, with some documents dating to 1928. Paul Breck and Angela Chin appraised and accessioned the records, and Erika Gorder and Stephen Urgola processed the collection. Mr. Urgola assumed responsibility for the final arrangement of the records and created the finding aid.

Access Restrictions

Institutional records of New York University are closed for a period of 20 years from the date of their creation (the date on which each document was written). Board of Trustees records are similarly closed for 35 years from the date of creation. The opening date for files spanning several years will be 20 years from the most recent date. Access will be given to material already 20 years old contained within a collection that is not yet open when such material can be isolated from the rest of the collection.

Materials related to personnel, faculty grievances, job searches and all files with information that falls under the University's Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) policy are permanently restricted.
