Abstract
The Edna Volck collection contains a scrapbook and photographs from the Volck family of Brooklyn, N.Y. during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Biographical note
Edna Volck, born in 1886 in Brooklyn, N.Y., worked as a secretary for Con-Edison for 30 years. She retired to California and died at the age of 100.
Scope and Contents
This collection contains items collected by Edna Volck and her mother Elizabeth Andrews Volck throughout their lifetimes in the late 19th and 20th centuries, circa 1875 to 1986. A scrapbook, presumably belonging to the elder Mrs. Volck, holds pasted clippings of news items, prayers, and obituaries. Visual items in the collection include cabinet cards of Edna Volck's elder relatives, portraits of her parents, photographs of her travels (mostly cruises), and photographs of her life in Brooklyn. A handful of photographs and ephemera, such as birthday cards, document Edna Volck's 100th birthday in 1986. Lastly, handwritten interview transcripts taken by donor Margery Cronshaw provide a first-person perspective on Edna Volck's life.
