Abstract

The collection contains accounting records for parades conducted by the 32nd New York State National Guard, 1876-1880; miscellaneous property records including deeds, mortgages, and leases in Brooklyn, 1861-1923; and deeds to plots in the Cemetery of the Evergreens belonging to the Universalist Society of Brooklyn. The collections of family materials include mortgages, deeds, bonds, leases, and wills belonging to the Sprague family of Brooklyn; the Williamson family of Brooklyn and Gravesend; the Voorhees family of Gravesend; the Dawson family of Brooklyn; the Dayton family of Brooklyn and Speonk, Long Island (called Remsenberg at the time); and Francis Dubois of Williamsburg. Material specific to Richard Williamson includes tax bills and receipts for the grading of East 23rd Street from Emmons Avenue to Jerome Avenue in the Sheepshead Bay neighborhood of Brooklyn. Also included are two letters from Marcus Campbell, attorney-at-law.

Biographical note

Richard Williamson was a descendant of the William Williamson family of Gravesend, N.Y. He lived on East 23rd Street in the Sheepshead Bay neighborhood of Brooklyn. Williamson worked as a carpenter and his son, Harry Williamson, worked as a painter.
