The Episcopal Diocese of Long Island publications date from 1866 to 1930 and measure 0.21 linear feet. The collection includes newsletters and dedication programs. The bulk of the collection consists of The Church Militant, a newsletter intended to broadcast news and coordinate activities among the chuches in the Diocese.

Historical note

The Episcopal Church's Diocese of Long Island was founded in 1869 with the consecration of the first Bishop of Long Island. The new Diocese encompassed Kings, Queens, Nassau, and Suffolk counties, and was headquartered at 170 Remsen Street in Downtown Brooklyn.

Scope and Contents

The Episcopal Diocese of Long Island publications date from 1866 to 1930 and measure 0.21 linear feet. The collection includes newsletters and dedication programs. The bulk of the collection consists of The Church Militant, a newsletter intended to broadcast news and coordinate activities among the chuches in the Diocese. Also included are one issue of The Church Magazine, 1875; a program from the Festival of the Epiphany, 1903; and published minutes of a meeting of Episcopal Diocese of New York clergy on Long Island, dated 1866, and preceding the establishment of the Diocese of Long Island.
