This collection contains an 1881 copy of Early Settlers of Kings County by Teunis G. Bergen, containing genealogical and biographical information on the early families of Kings County from circa 1650 to 1780.

Biographical / Historical

Teunis G. Bergen (1806-1881) was a Brooklyn surveyor and historian who served as town supervisor of the town of New Utrecht from 1836 to 1859 and as a Democratic congressman from the Second District.

Scope and Contents

This collection contains an 1881 copy of Early Settlers of Kings County by Teunis G. Bergen, containing genealogical and biographical information on the early families of Kings County from circa 1650 to 1780. Also included are various original and copied deeds, title abstracts, agreements, receipts, contracts, bonds, and court documents spanning the period 1781 to 1901, most of which were possibly compiled by Bergen during his historical research. Individuals represented in the documents are from several early Kings County families, including the Duryea, Hegeman, Lott, Schenk, Van Siclen, and Wyckoff families.
