This collection consists of a notebook belonging to Horace Greeley listing speaking and meeting engagements during the period 1849 to 1851, as well as an undated engraving of Greeley.
Biographical Note
Horace Greeley (1811-1872) was a New York politician and editor of the New York Tribune, one of 19th-century America's most influential newspapers. He is buried in Brooklyn's Green-Wood Cemetery.
Scope and Contents
This collection consists of a notebook belonging to Horace Greeley listing speaking and meeting engagements during the period 1849 to 1851, as well as an undated engraving of Greeley. The notebook lists four Brooklyn engagements, including temperance meetings at Plymouth Church and an unspecified Williamsburg location, a meeting on opposition to flogging in the Navy, and a lecture at St. Peter's Church. Greeley's signature has also been cut out of the notebook and pasted onto a paper backing.
