Handwritten 1882 diary of Albert E. Parfitt and one postcard written by Parfitt in 1887.
Biographical note
Albert E. Parfitt was born in England and was later baptised and confirmed at St. Ann's Church in Brooklyn at the age of 19. He worked for an architectural firm in Brooklyn, and lived at 27 Douglas Street.

Handwritten 1882 diary of Albert E. Parfitt and one postcard written by Parfitt in 1887.
The diary contains references to Parfitt's business projects and social engagements, as well as the weather. Also mentioned are various Brooklyn churches, including the Church of the Pilgrims, the First Presbyterian Church, Grace Church, and St. Ann's Church, as well as several prominent individuals in Brooklyn and New York City's intellectual and political spheres, such as Simeon B. Chittenden, Peter Cooper, A.A. Low, Seth Low, and James S.T. Stranahan, among others.
The postcard was sent by Parfitt from Amsterdam in The Netherlands back to "Messrs Parfitt Bros., Architects" at 26 Court Street and describes Dutch architecture, engineering, and infrastructure, including a diagram of water management.
