Abstract

This collection contains records of the Woodhull Monument Association, including minutes, a draft of "An Appeal to the American People for the Martyrs of the Prison Ships," the constitution of the Revolutionary Martyrs Monumental Association, correspondence, and a contract between Brooklyn's Cypress Hills Cemetery and the Woodhull Monument Association.

Historical note

The Woodhull Monument Association was a fundraising organization that unsuccessfully sought to raise $50,000 for the erection of a monument to General Nathaniel Woodhull, a Revolutionary War officer who died in Brooklyn in 1776 while a prisoner of the British.
