Abstract

This collection consists of three songbooks issued by various Republican organizations, including the National Republican League of the United States, for the 1888 and 1892 Presidential campaigns.

Historical note

The 1888 United States Presidential election was between Democratic incumbent Grover Cleveland and Republican nominee Benjamin Harrison, and resulted in a victory for Harrison. Cleveland won the Presidency back from Harrison in 1892, and in so doing became the only United States President ever to serve two non-consecutive terms.

Scope and Contents

This collection consists of three songbooks issued by various Republican organizations, including the National Republican League of the United States, for the 1888 and 1892 Presidential campaigns. The songbooks concern a variety of political and social issues, including slavery. An 1888 pamphlet issued by the Brooklyn Young Republican Club containing a historical sketch comparing the protection of domestic industries and free trade is also included.
