Biographical note
William C. Beecher (b. 1849), compiler of the scrapbook, was the son of Rev. Henry Ward Beecher. As a lawyer and a resident of Brooklyn, William C. Beecher chaired the Campaign Committee of the First Ward Republican Association in 1882, and was a member of the same committee in 1883.
Scope and Contents
The Brooklyn Republican Party scrapbook contains items dating from 1881 to 1883 and measures 0.42 linear feet. The scrapbook includes bylaws, voter registries, reports, clippings, circulars, correspondence, and other election material from the First Ward Republican Association of Brooklyn, the Brooklyn Young Republican Club, and the Kings County Republican General Committee. Most of the materials in the scrapbook relate to Mayor Seth Low's re-election campaign in 1883. Registries list voters from Brooklyn's First Ward and include name, street address, age, and length of residency.
