Scope and Contents
A certificate of appointment issued by the New York Provincial Congress, dated August 22, 1775. The certificate appoints the unnamed appointee to a position in the New York Militia. The certificate is blank, listing neither the name of the appointee nor the office to which the appointee is chosen. The certificate is signed at the bottom by Nathaniel Woodhull, president of the New York Provincial Congress.
