Abstract: The Brevoort family papers contain materials documenting the personal and business affairs of four generations of the Brevoort family, a prosperous family of Dutch origin who lived in both Manhattan and Brooklyn. The collection spans the period 1760 to 1879 (bulk dates 1828 to 1847) and contains correspondence, legal documents (estate records, wills, bonds, land conveyances and deeds, and business documents), miscellaneous printed material, genealogical notes, and one scrapbook. The majority of the collection concerns Henry Brevoort, Jr. (1782-1848), in particular his property that was located in what is today the West Village neighborhood of Manhattan; James Carson Brevoort (1818-1887); and Henry L. Brevoort (1849-1895). The genealogical notes include information on the Brevoort family, as well as the Lefferts family of Brooklyn, among others.
