Abstract
This collection consists of various items pertaining to the H. Joseph Murray family of Brooklyn, N.Y. during the period 1833 to 1863.
Biographical note
H. Joseph Murray was a resident of Brooklyn and was appointed Commissioner of Deeds for the city in 1863. Murray and his wife, Julia, had at least one son, also named H. Joseph Murray, who fought for the Union Army during the Civil War.

Scope and Contents
This collection consists of various items pertaining to the H. Joseph Murray family of Brooklyn, N.Y. during the period 1833 to 1863. Items include an 1833 letter from Murray to his wife, Julia, mentioning a cholera epidemic; an 1863 certificate of appointment for H. Joseph Murray as Commissioner of Deeds for the City of Brooklyn; and letters written during the Civil War, including a letter received by H. Joseph Murray, Jr. from friend Charles B. Wyckoff in 1861 describing Wyckoff's experience in the 71st Regiment of the New York Volunteer Infantry, and three letters from H. Joseph Murray, Jr. to his mother while stationed in Harrisburgh, PA in 1863.
