Abstract

The Annie M. Holywell scrapbook includes clippings, photographs, and postcards relating to Brooklyn and dating from 1902-1933.

Biographical note

Annie M. Holywell was the daughter of William C. Holywell (1822-1907) and Annie Lawrence (married December 4, 1856) of 615 Ocean Avenue in Brooklyn. She was at one time the head Kindergartener of the Meredith Free Kindergartens in Brooklyn, as well as a member and officer of the New York State Chapter of the Daughters of Founders and Patriots of America.

The disbound scrapbook pages and photocopied newsclippings are arranged in one folder in the volume's original order.

Scope and Contents

The Annie M. Holywell scrapbook spans the period 1902 to 1933 and includes clippings, photographs, and postcards relating to Brooklyn, including obituaries of members of prominent Brooklyn families and material relating to the Flatbush Dutch Reformed Church and Daughters of Founders and Patriots of America. It also includes poetry and some Holywell genealogy.

Processing Information

This collection was rehoused and the finding aid revised by Dee Bowers in 2023. At that time, the scrapbook's covers were detached and its spine was damaged. The book was disbound, the plain black covers discarded and, where possible, newspaper clippings were photocopied and the originals discarded. Pages with photographs were sleeved in mylar.
