Abstract:

The Kings County Census of 1786 consists of a single handwritten document and provides
population figures within the different towns that comprised Kings County at this
time, including Brooklyn, Flatbush, New Lots, Gravesend, Flatlands, and Bushwick.
The census includes the number of families in each town, the number of males and females
under age 16, the number of males and females between the ages of 16 and age 60, the
number of males over age 60, and the numbers of male and female African-American slaves.
The census information was compiled by Peter Vandervoort, Sheriff.
