Abstract

The collection contains seven declarations of sale for property in Village of Williamsburgh, dated 1836 to 1837.

Historical note

The Village of Williamsburgh, which was part of the Town of Bushwick, was incorporated in 1827. In 1840, it separated from Bushwick, and was established as the independent Town of Williamsburgh. In 1852, it incorporated as the City of Williamsburg, and shortly thereafter was annexed by the City of Brooklyn in 1855.

Scope and Contents

The collection contains seven declarations of sale for property in Village of Williamsburgh, dated 1836 to 1837. The property was seized by the village trustees for unpaid tax assessments, and then sold at auction. The following names are found in the collection: Alanson Ackerly, Andrew Brady, Daniel Ewen, Henry Meigs, Daniel Olmstead, Jacob Taylor, and Samuel Wiswell.
