Abstract
This Welfare Council of New York City manuscript collection spans the period 1837 to 1937 and measures 0.42 linear feet. The collection consists of typewritten manuscripts that document the Great Depression of the 1930s. These documents cover issues such as unemployment, housing, health, education, crime, and the overall social situation. All issues are presented in the context of social work and relief programs conducted at the time in New York City and Brooklyn. Also included are manuscripts on previous economic depressions that occured during the 19th century. All of the manuscripts were produced during the 1930s.
