Abstract
This collection contains materials relating to Edward R. Squibb, his family, and his company, Squibb Pharmaceuticals. Items include correspondence, a family bible, books, pamphlets, additional printed materials, and nine antique pharmaceutical containers.
Biographical Note
Edward Robinson Squibb (1819-1900) was a physician and chemist. He was born in Wilmington, DE and attended Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA. Shortly after graduating, he was appointed a surgeon in the United States Navy. He then ran a medical station at the Brooklyn Navy Yard in Brooklyn, N.Y. before opening his own pharmaceutical company, Squibb Pharmaceuticals, in Brooklyn. The company later became E.R. Squibb & Sons, and eventually became part of the major pharmaeutical company Bristol-Myers Squibb.
