Natalie Chassler was born to white American Jewish parents and raised in Brooklyn, New York. Chassler attended Hunter College and the New York School of Social Work, both located in New York City. She was employed as a social worker and director of the Manhattan Psychiatric Center.
Scope and Contents
In the interviews, Chassler discusses her childhood in the East Flatbush and Crown Heights neighborhoods of Brooklyn during the Great Depression; courtship and marriage to her husband; adult friendships; and personal and professional relationships with people who suffer from mental illness.
