Scope and Contents
The Dutch in New York lantern slide collection contains 24 lantern slides measuring 0.5 linear feet. Images in the collection depict homes, churches, and artifacts relevant to Dutch settlement in Brooklyn and New York City during the 17th and 18th centuries. The collection contains images of Dutch furniture, interiors, clothing, and cooking utensils. Significant sites in the collection include early Dutch churches, namely the Dutch Reformed Churches in the Flatbush and Flatlands neighborhoods of Brooklyn, Gerritsen's Tide Mill in Flatlands, and the Breukelen Ferry house at the East River. Brooklyn Dutch homes of note include the Boerum Mansion in Bushwick, the Jacobus Lefferts House in Flatbush, the Nacasius De Sille House in New Utrecht, the Stoothoff House in Flatlands, and the Pieter Claesen Wyckoff House in Flatbush. One slide shows a circa 17th century Dutch map of the region surrounding the Noort Riuier, known today as the Hudson River. Many slides in the collection are photographs of illustrations.
