Abstract

Included in the collection are four black-and-white photographic prints documenting activities related to the Century Ball, a dinner that was held at the Brooklyn Savings Bank in Brooklyn Heights in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Long Island Historical Society.

Biographical note

Daniel M.C. Hopping (d.1990) was an American architect who specialized in historic restoration. After graduating from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1931, he later gained recognition for New York City-based historic restoration projects including the reconstruction of the Jan Martense Schenck House (dating from 1675) at the Brooklyn Museum. Hopping also supervised the installment of 14 American Period Rooms at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Manhattan. He died in Bronxville, N.Y. in 1990.

Scope and Contents

The Daniel M. C. Hopping collection of Long Island Historical Society photographs and slides is comprised of 10 items dating from 1963 to 1965. Included in the collection are four black-and-white photographic prints documenting activities related to the Century Ball, a dinner that was held at the Brooklyn Savings Bank in Brooklyn Heights in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Long Island Historical Society. The photographer is unknown. Also included are six color slides showing views of the Long Island Historical Society exhibition at the New York World's Fair. The slides were taken by Hopping in 1965.
