Abstract

The Photograph collection of streets, railroad tracks, and elevated railroads in the Brooklyn neighborhoods of Bedford-Stuyvesant, East New York, and Brownsville. The original photographs from which the prints were made date from 1905 to 1938. The photographs show both dirt and paved streets, street railroads, elevated railroads, elevated railroad stations, and businesses along the streets and railroads. The collection includes several views of Atlantic Avenue. Many of the images show period automobiles.

Scope and Contents

The Photograph collection of streets, railroad tracks, and elevated railroads in Brooklyn consists of 11 black-and-white photographic prints showing street views of areas of Brooklyn including the neighborhoods of Bedford-Stuyvesant, East New York, and Brownsville. The original photographs from which the prints were made date from 1905 to 1938. The photographs show both dirt and paved streets, street railroads, elevated railroads, elevated railroad stations, and businesses along the streets and railroads. The collection includes several views of Atlantic Avenue. Many of the images show period automobiles.
