Abstract

Dawn Eden Goldstein (b. 1968), an American author and journalist, began writing about rock music under the abbreviated name, Dawn Eden, in 1985. She graduated from New York University with a degree in Communications in 1989. During her tenure as a rock journalist, Goldstein interviewed numerous musicians including Harry Nilsson, Brian Wilson, Del Shannon, and Lesley Gore. She also held editorial positions for the New York Post and the Daily News. This collection documents Goldstein's early career as a rock journalist and includes several interviews from "Videowave," a Manhattan cable music television show produced by Alan Abramowitz that pre-dated MTV. Materials include 22 video recordings of "Videowave" interviews featuring Dawn Eden, ephemera, flyers, photographs, press releases, and promotional materials.

Biographical Note

Dawn Eden Goldstein, an American author and journalist, was born into a Jewish family in New York City in 1968. Goldstein began writing about rock music under the abbreviated name, Dawn Eden, in 1985. She graduated from New York University with a degree in Communications in 1989. During her tenure as a rock journalist, Goldstein interviewed numerous musicians including Harry Nilsson, Brian Wilson, Del Shannon, and Lesley Gore. She also held editorial positions for the New York Post and the Daily News. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, Goldstein converted to Christianity, which eventually led her to join the Roman Catholic Church. She received her doctorate in sacred theology (S.T.D.) from the University of St. Mary of the Lake in 2016, becoming the first woman in the university's history to earn a canonical doctorate. Goldstein's publications include Remembering God's Mercy, The Thrill of the Chaste, and My Peace I Give You: Healing Sexual Wounds with the Help of the Saints.

Scope and Contents

This collection documents Goldstein's early career as a rock journalist from 1981-1999 and includes several interviews on 22 VHS tapes from "Videowave," a Manhattan cable music television show produced by Alan Abramowitz that pre-dated MTV. Material includes ephemera that document shows at CBGB, musicians and bands including the Fuzztones and Del Shannon, benefit concerts and memorial services, set lists, and various event post cards. There are also press kits for Valentine Smith; press releases and articles related to Ben Vaughn Combo and Peter Stamphel; They Might Be Giants Posters; and flyers, photographs, and promotional materials related to various bands including NY Pop Circus, Mod Lang, The Love Delegation, Richard Lloyd, Bill Lloyd, Insanity, Hoodoo Gurus, The Dream Syndicate, Del-Lords, Deep Six, and Das Damen.

Processing Information

Materials were placed in new acid-free folders by a pervious archivist and housed in the same box with the VHS tapes. The folders were rehoused in a seperate box and the folder titles were maintained.
