Todd Thomas and Robert Blanchon were partners for several years and continued to be friends throughout the 1990's. Thomas is a fashion designer and director at Todd Thomas New York. Robert Blanchon was an artist and teacher. The collection contains letters Blanchon wrote to Thomas during the 1990's. The collection also includes personal photographs, publications, and printed ephemera. Materials date from 1983 to 2001.

Biographical Note

Todd Thomas and Robert Blanchon were partners for several years and continued to be friends throughout the 1990's.

Todd Thomas is a fashion designer and director at Todd Thomas New York. Thomas began his fashion career in St. Louis, Missouri, and eventually moved to New York City in the 1980's. He has worked as a designer and director on various projects, including the annual Victoria's Secret Fashion show, Katy Perry's California Dreams tour, and the Barrett Barrera Projects.

Artist and teacher Robert Blanchon (1965-1999) attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago between 1984 and 1990, where he earned his BFA and MFA. From 1989 to 1994, Blanchon lived in New York City where he produced photographic, sculptural, performance, and video artworks including many of his early photographic series. In 1995, Blanchon began teaching as an artist-in-residence at the University of California, Irvine. In subsequent years he worked as a visiting artist at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Blanchon exhibited widely throughout the United States in group shows, and had five solo exhibitions during his lifetime.

Scope and Contents

This collection contains the papers of Todd Thomas and Robert Blanchon. A majority of the collection contains letters Blanchon wrote to Thomas during their time as partners and later as friends. The collection also contains personal photographs of Thomas and Blanchon, as well as a small amount of publications and printed ephemera related to Blanchon's work as an artist. Materials date from 1983 to 2001.
