Abstract
The Once and Etc. Archive consists of correspondence with and manuscripts sent to Once's editor and contributor, Tom Clark. The collection includes material from noted writers and figures, including: Allen Ginsberg, Gerard Malanga, Robert Creeley and George Plimpton.
Historical/Biographical Note:
The Once and Etc. Archive is a collection of correspondence with Tom Clark, 1941- who edited the poetry magazine sometimes called: A One Shot Magazine. Though that title was carried through in other issues, the magazine, which was called "Once" once, was published under different names every issue (except where noted): Twice, Thrice, Thrice and a 1/2, Frice, Ice, Nice, Vice, Slice (two issues had this title), and Spice.
In the 1960's, Tom Clark, whose long and varied career includes forays into poetry, fiction, play writing, and biography, edited the 11 issue run of this poetry magazine as well as the higher profiled, Paris Review. At the time of this collection's creation, Clark, an American born in Chicago, was in England where he and Allen Ginsberg had come in the early 1960's to hitchhike.
The One Shot Magazine and various named decedents was a 37 cm., illustrated, and low budget enterprise where the content reflected its unorthodox appellations. Its contributors included a number notable writers and figures of the time.
Note: Copies of the magazine are not part of this archive but are available in the Fales Collection..
