Scope and Contents

Before its arrival at the New-York Historical Society, a portion of the Dumpson collection was grouped into binders (probably by someone other than James R. Dumpson) and labeled "Memorabilia I," Memorabilia II," etc., through "Memorabilia VIII," but skipping "Memorabilia VII." Two additional binders were simply marked "Memorabilia" without numerical designations. There is little difference between this "memorabilia" (now rehoused in folders) and the material found in the collection's scrapbooks, which contain a mixture of ephemera, correspondence, newspaper clippings, photographs, and publications documenting Dumpson's educational, professional, and personal life. Researchers should also consult the loose files and miscellaneous binders of Series VII for additional items in this same broad category.
