Scope and Content Note

This collection contains a wide variety of materials accumulated during the life of the New York City 100 organization. Most of the materials are outlined in “Final Report for the archive of The New-York Historical Society” prepared by Marie Salerno, President, New York City 100.

Among the document types are correspondence, plans and drafts of plans, funding proposals, press releases, lists of individuals (staff, donors, invitees, participants), photographs, news clippings, advertisements, graphics, posters, mock-ups and final version of The New York Pop-Up Book, manuals, videocassettes, computer disks, and financial materials.

Overall, the condition of the items is good. There are, in some cases, duplicates of materials. Documents are dated from 1997 through 2001, although many are not dated. More specific information may be found in each of the Series Descriptions.

Arrangement Note

The arrangement of the collection follows that outlined in “Final Report for the archive of The New-York Historical Society prepared by Marie Salerno President, New York City 100.” Series I – XIII are based on sections within the report and their folder titles correspond to the “Contents of File” lists. A copy of the report is available.

There are items within the donation that are not mentioned in the report. Their titles are included within brackets [].

Series XIV – XVI are not described in the “Final Report…” See the Series Descriptions for arrangement of these materials.

Within several series, there are references to newspaper advertisements, clippings, reviews, etc. Materials of this type are located in Box 17, Folders 6 and 7 (Series XII) and in Box 18 (Series XVI). They are arranged by news source (e.g. The New York Times,  The New York Daily News) rather than by specific event.
