||The initial proposal for the Center for Haitian Studies took place at the
Conference on Resources and Research in Haiti, held in New York City, November 1-4, 1967. During its relatively brief existence,
the Center helped focus attention on critical issues in Haiti under the Duvalier government
and provided research and training opportunities for Haitians living abroad or in
exile. The bilingual collection includes correspondence, financial records, reports,
minutes, statutes, press releases, clippings, draft material, published conference
proceedings, transcripts, articles, printed matter, audiotapes, notes, and ephemera.
