Thomas Petrella (1907-1937?) was born in Buffalo, New York and was educated at Harvard. He traveled to Europe in March of 1937 and joined the International Brigades as an American volunteer. According to his life insurance company, he was last seen wounded in a Red Cross camp in October 1937. This small collection includes Petrella's birth certificate, letters from the Department of State, and the Veterans of the Abraham Lincoln Brigade to his mother, a letter from the French government confirming Petrella's death in 1937, a life insurance claim form, and a letter from a friend of Mr. Petrella's to his mother.
