Historical/Biographical Note
The Association of Lithuanian Workers, commonly known by its Lithuanian acronym, LDS (Lietuviu Darbininku Susivienijimas), a fraternal organization politically oriented toward the Communist Party of the United States of America, was founded in 1930. From 1953 to 1957 the LDS was on the U.S. Attorney General's list of subversive organizations. As of 2003, the LDS continued to administer an insurance program, and in 2006 the LDS was merged into the Royal Arcanum, a non-ethnically-based fraternal organization.
