This collection contains Marion Nestle's photographs of Higley Hill Camp in Vermont, taken in 1946-1948.

Historical/Biographical Note

Marion Nestle (1936-) is the Paulette Goddard Professor in the Department of Nutrition, Food Studies, and Public Health at New York University. Nestle is a leading nutrition scholar and has written three award winning books, Food Politics: How the Food Industry Influences Nutrition and Health; Safe Food: The Politics of Food Safety; and What to Eat. As a child, she attended camp Higley Hill in Vermont. Her father, Ted Zittel, was a labor publicist, most notably successful for the strike against the Brass Rail Restaurant in New York City.

This collection has not been arranged by an archivist. The materials are arranged in the order in which they were received from the donor.

Scope and Content Note

The collection also contains small, black-and-white images of the Higley Hill Camp from 1946-1948. The photographs are from a disassembled scrapbook with photographs depicting Ted, Tillie, and Marion Zittel, Manny and Grace Granich, and Sandy Nemiroff at Higley Hill. The photographs also depict Higley Hill after a fire and floods in spring 1948.This collection also includes a photocopy of the scrapbook including captions and further description of the images by Marion (Zittel) Nestle.
