Abstract

John Pacuska worked as a waiter at Camp Tamiment, an educational and recreational summer resort for socialists and their families located near Bushkill, Pennsylvania. The collection consists of ten pages of laser photocopies of 13 black-and-white photographs dating from 1951 to 1963, with captions written by Pacuska. The images are mostly group shots of Pacuska and the wait staff at Camp Tamiment.

Historical/Biographical Note

John Pacuska was born in the coal mining town of Pittston, Pennsylvania. He served in the Navy for two years following World War II. In 1951, Pacuska and others from Pittston were recruited to work at Camp Tamiment, an educational and recreational summer resort for socialists and their families located near Bushkill, Pennsylvania. Pacuska worked as a waiter at the camp to help pay for his college education. He went on to have a career as a psychologist. Pacuska is retired and currently resides in Fountain Valley, California.

Scope and Contents

The collection consists of ten pages of laser photocopies of 13 black-and-white photographs dating from 1951 to 1963, with captions written by Pacuska. The images are mostly group shots of Pacuska and the wait staff at Camp Tamiment, though there are also images of Pacuska with other camp staff and with the guests he served. Pacuksa's captions provide biographical information on specific staff members.
