Scope and Content Note

This series contains materials related to National Lawyers Guild (NLG) activities in the Midwest regional and New York City branches between the 1970s and 1990s. Materials related to the New York City chapter come from the files of Amy Ruth Tobol who served as the NLG's National Vice President (1992-1994), Vice President NYC Chapter (1988-1991) and Board Member (1984-1986). These materials contain correspondence, newsletters, and memoranda related to Tobol's involvement with the NLG's National Executive Committee and New York City chapter between the 1980s and 1990s. A large portion of Tobol's materials relate to her involvement in the Mississippi Prisoner's Project in 1994. These materials include daily logs and exit reports from volunteers, correspondence among organizers, and project reports. It also contains a some documents related to Tobol's work on the NLG History Committee in 2000. Materials related to the Midwest chapter activities come from the files of attorney Thomas M. Haney in the 1970s. These materials relate primarily to Haney's work for the NLG's Military Law Office and Chicago regional branch. It also contains a number of National Lawyers Guild newsletters and convention guides from the 1970s.
