Philip and Regina Frankfeld were members of the Communist Party who were arrested and convicted (1951-1952) of subversive activity under the Smith Act. Philip, the secretary of the Communist Party in Massachusetts, was sentenced to five years and his wife Regina two years in prison.
Scope and Contents
This collection contains writings by Philip and Regina Frankfeld about their time spent in prison and letters from prison, documents from a campaign to raise money for them (they were fined as part of their sentence), pamphlets issued by the Communist Party of Massachussetts, an an oral history by Regina, reports written in the 1960s-1970s on issues such as the contemporary women's movement, U.S. history, and other topics, presumably for internal Communist Party consumption, and an unidentified photograph of a group of men on a stage, under a banner "[For a] Labor Party Now!"
