Abstract

Vivian Mae Leighton (b. March 5, 1910) was a U.S. citizen employed by the United Nations, beginning in 1946, and an alumna of Brown University. In 1955, she submitted her replies to a questionnaire from the International Organizations Loyalty Board, established by Executive Order 10422, pertaining to the employment of U.S. citizens by international organizations, notably the United Nations. This small collection includes the questionnaire filled out by Leighton and related correspondence, a copy of Executive Order 10422, The Secretary General's Remarks to the United Nations Correspondents Association (July 10, 1953), which include discussion of the Order, and an envelope from the Brown University Almnae Fund.

Scope and Contents

The Vivian Mae Leighton Papers include material relating to Executive Order 10422 regarding information to be made available to the Secretary General of the United Nations (UN) regarding American citizens employed by the UN. Material in the collection dates from 1953 to 1955 and includes a questionnaire from the International Organizations Employees Loyalty Board completed by Leighton in 1955, letters regarding the questionnaire, and personal information forms completed by Leighton for employment. Also included are a copy of Executive Order 10422 , the Secretary General's remarks to the UN Correspondents Association regarding the order, and an envelope from the Brown University Alumnae Fund.
