Abstract
J.S. Ferguson was an employee of the American Rolling Mill Company (ARMCO). The collection consists of a statement regarding his expereince working on the Kuznetsk steel plan project in Russia.
Biographical Note
J.S. Ferguson was an employee of the American Rolling Mill Company (ARMCO), who, in July 1931 was granted a leave of absence to accept a commission from the Freyn Engineering Company as blast funace consultant at the Kuznetsk (integrated steel) plant in Russia.

Scope and Contents
The collection consists of a bound typescript titled "Statement of J.S. Ferguson covering personal experiences in Russia over a period of eighteen months." Dated April 30th 1933, the statement principally describes the Kuznetsk steel plan project, and also contains an organizational and personnel chart. There is an accompanying cover letter to an ARMCO official from October, 1930. The "Statement" contains a detailed technical, social and political analysis of the project, including relations between Communist and non-Communist engineers and other employees and officials, as well as its historical context.
