Abstract: This collection contains the family papers of Joseph and Helen Oken North from the 1920s to 1970s. Their papers are largely comprised of correspondence, which documents their involvement in Communist Party activism, their experiences in Spain during the Spanish Civil War, and their family life. This collection also contains a significant amount of materials related to Joseph North's career as a journalist for the communist publications New Masses and the  Daily Worker. Included in the collection are materials related to Helen Oken North's family who were also involved in socialist activism and labor organization.
