Abstract
The Tamiment Library and Robert F. Wagner Labor Archives Collection of Africa Serials contains over 50 titles published in Africa, the United States, and Europe on political, cultural, and social issues in sub-Saharan Africa between 1951 and 2009. The bulk of the collection consists of serials published between the 1970s and the 1980s on South Africa and anti-apartheid movements in Africa, the United States, and the United Kingdom.

The Tamiment Library and Robert F. Wagner Labor Archives Collection of Africa Serials contains over 50 titles published in Africa, the United States (US), and Europe on political, cultural, and social issues in sub-Saharan Africa between 1951 and 2009. The bulk of the collection consists of serials published between the 1970s and the 1980s. Topics include political, cultural, and social issues in South Africa, Angola, Ethiopia, Ghana, Nigeria, and Kenya in the mid to late 20th century. The bulk of the collection focuses on human rights issues in South Africa and anti-apartheid movements in South Africa, the US, and the United Kingdom (UK) in the 1970s and 1980s. Other topics include the liberation movement in Angola in the 1970s, the Ethiopian Civil War, and organizations formed by African students in the US and UK.

Immediate Source of Acquisition
This collection combines serials relating to Africa drawn from two discrete groups of material held by the Tamiment Library. The first was a partially inventoried backlog of serials, received by the library through donations, subscriptions, and in archival collections. The second group consisted of around 1,700 serials, newspapers, and magazines, organized by title as an artificial collection, referred to as Periodicals.001 or Boxed Newspapers. This material was combined, inventoried, and arranged and described in subject-based categories in 2017. The accession number related to this collection is 2017.049.

The material in this collection was assembled from various backlogs of uncataloged material held by the Tamiment Library. This material was inventoried, separated according to its subject matter, and arranged in a series of subject-based artificial collections. Accumulations of material relating to Africa were identified and brought together physically. Materials were housed in archival folders and boxes according to size. The inventory is arranged alphabetically by title of publication, with publishing organization and place of publication listed when known.
