| Abstract:
|
The membership of the International Brotherhood of Painters and Allied Trades, District
Council 9 in the New York City metropolitan area has generally reflected the various
waves of immigrants coming into the country, the development of different political
tendencies in the labor movement, and the tensions brought on by changes in the U.S.
economy. The Council has also been the site of important struggles against racketeering
and corruption, and for union democracy. The collection consists of bound minute books,
agreements with other trade unions and legal documents relating to Frank Arnold, James
Bishop, and Frank Schonfeld, among others. Correspondence, election materials, Trusteeship
records and Executive Trial Board records of Frank Schonfeld's trial (1972) are also
included.
